Personnel basket

A properly engineered work platform made for an Avant quick-attach plate, instead of a pallet cage slipped over forks.

Blueprint concept drawing of a guarded personnel basket with a self-closing gate and quick-attach interface, marked not certified

What it is

A proper personnel basket — a mandskabskurv, as the Danish owners’ groups call it — that couples to the Avant quick-attach plate. Full-height railings, self-closing gate, harness anchor point, and a rating plate that makes it legal to stand in. Not a pallet cage slipped over forks: an engineered work platform designed around a compact loader’s lift capacity and boom geometry.

Why I want it

Every rural property has jobs at exactly the height an Avant boom reaches: gutters, barn lights, fascia boards, pruning the branch that hangs over the track. What actually gets used for those jobs is a ladder, and ladders are what actually put people in hospital. The machine with the stable base and the lift height is sitting right there — it just has nothing safe or legal to put a person in.

What exists instead

Not much, and for a reason. Avant’s own answer to working at height is a whole separate machine — the group owns Leguan, whose spider lifts start at many times the price of an attachment. The generic fork-pocket baskets sold for telehandlers are sized and rated for machines several times an Avant’s capacity, and hanging one off a compact loader doesn’t make it compliant. As far as I can tell, nobody sells a personnel basket made for the Avant quick-attach at all. What you see in the owners’ groups instead are home-welded cages — which is the one category of one-off fabrication on this page that should worry everyone.

What it would take

More than any other entry here, because this is the one where “a weekend of fabrication” is the wrong answer. Lifting people is regulated everywhere: a real product needs engineering calculations, certification, per-model load charts, and the paperwork that lets an owner use it without voiding their insurance — and the rules for lifting persons with a loader vary by country and are strict in all of them. That’s exactly why it belongs on this list: it’s out of reach for a local fabricator, but squarely in reach for an established attachment maker who already does certified lifting equipment.
